The Design Competition asked a proposal for a secure temporary space for the exhibit of fine art. The outdoor setting requires that the proposed prototype provide both protection for and exhibition of juried works (during the day as well as evening).
On the right side the concept is explained. It’s very simple, the start is a beam which is can be unfolded to create an entry to the Temporary Outdoor Gallery Space. Within this TOGS, art can be exhibited protected against rain and direct sunlight. The sides of TOGS can unfold in any desired position, so the exhibitor can facilitate his desired arrangement. So you can choose to make a sheltered and closed box or a very open box. If desired, the open sides can unfold one more time to create a roof. By creating such a roof an additional space to exhibit art without direct sunlight is created.
By indent the bottom of the box a little inward the box seems a light object instead of cumbersome box. This indent is accentuated with lights to enhance the enlightening effect.
In his open form, the box gives space to exhibit art but for example it also can be used to install a bar. As a result, a terrace is formed on the boulevard where visitors can have a drink and have a rest of to catch up. In a TOGS next to it there could be a band playing music.
Big advantages of these TOGS are that they are easy to close and give security to the artworks or instruments that are in it when they are closed.
